On October 11, 2024, the 23rd China International Internal Combustion Engine and Power Equipment Expo (ICE&PE) kicked off at the Beijing Beiren Yichuang International Convention and Exhibition Center. Natural gas heavy-duty trucks have become a new incremental market in the commercial vehicle sector, with product sales soaring and showing a comprehensive explosive trend. The Aowei CA6DX1 diesel engine has a displacement of 15.57 liters and adopts an inline six cylinder+twin turbocharged design with a cylinder capacity of 139X171mm. It is a newly developed high displacement, high horsepower National VI engine that adopts an efficient SCR technology route and has advantages such as high power, high reliability, high safety, high comfort, low maintenance, and low fuel consumption.

The two engines, Aowei CA6SM4 and Aowei CA6SM6, are both gas powered and have shown impressive sales performance this year. The hybrid system exhibited by Jiefang Power this time is the P2 configuration hybrid powertrain with the widest application range of new energy vehicles at present, which can be understood as engine+electromechanical coupling+drive motor+gearbox. The principle is to have two sets of drive systems, including an internal combustion engine system and an electric motor drive system. The two systems can work in coordination simultaneously or drive the vehicle separately. Its advantage lies in achieving good power and economic improvement with minimal renovation cost. In short, a separate drive motor is installed between the engine and gearbox of traditional car models, allowing these two sets of power to be output through the gearbox.

In the internal combustion engine section, this hybrid system is equipped with the Liberation Power 4DT2-18E68 engine, with a displacement of 2.44 liters. In addition to having strong foundation design in terms of fuel economy and reliability, this engine also optimizes the commonly used speed and torque range of the engine for this hybrid system, ensuring that the engine is more in the fuel economy zone while maintaining the overall power performance of the vehicle, thus ensuring both power and fuel efficiency.

In the drive motor section, the hybrid system is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a maximum output power of 65 kW, 88 horsepower, and a maximum output torque of 370 N · m. Of course, in order to achieve better power distribution, the HCU control system installed in the original vehicle can intelligently distribute torque in different scenarios. In order to further achieve power transmission, a 6-speed ATM gearbox specially developed for new energy vehicle models is connected to the rear of these two power systems, which further achieves overall power connection and transmission through the gearbox. Similarly, during the deceleration of hybrid light trucks, the motor can further recover kinetic energy. Through further coordination of the hybrid system, it can enable the diesel engine and drive motor of the entire vehicle to operate better in the "high-efficiency and low consumption" working range, thereby achieving better fuel economy. The HCU and control strategy independently developed for the hybrid system can further support the optimal design goal of the hybrid powertrain at the software level, thereby achieving better fuel economy. The tested regulatory standard cycle fuel saving rate exceeds 15%, and the mountainous intercity logistics fuel saving rate reaches over 28%.
