Industry Data | Import and Export of Internal Combustion Engine Industry in January and February 2025

Zheng Yuesheng, spokesperson for the General Administration of Customs, said, "Due to the influence of the Spring Festival, China's foreign trade enterprises have once again shown the business habit of concentrated exports before the holiday and gradually starting production after the holiday. In addition, the impact of year-on-year base changes has led to significant fluctuations in data

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, the total import and export value of China in the first two months of 2025 was 909.37 billion US dollars, an increase of -2.4%. Among them, exports reached 539.94 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.3%, setting a new historical high for the same period; Imports amounted to 369.43 billion US dollars, an increase of -8.4%; The trade surplus was 170.52 billion US dollars, and the overall start of foreign trade was stable.

Specifically in the internal combustion engine industry, there has been a slight increase in import and export performance, with export growth exceeding imports.

According to data compiled by the General Administration of Customs, the total import and export volume of the internal combustion engine industry in January and February 2025 was 5.751 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 7.62%. Among them, imports were 1.419 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -1.45%, and exports were 4.333 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 10.96%.

1、 In terms of import value, except for the year-on-year increase in other types of internal combustion engines, all other types have decreased, with a significant decrease in gasoline engines. Specifically:

Diesel engine imports amounted to 205 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -4.30% (including imports of marine diesel engines of 161 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 35.13%);

The import of gasoline engines was 52 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -34.87% (of which the import of reciprocating piston engines for vehicles with a displacement of 3000 ≥ 1000ml was 51 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -28.85%);

The import of other types of complete machines was 363 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 19.89% (including the import of compression ignition piston internal combustion engines with other output power ≥ 132.39 kW of 209 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 12.50%);

The import of internal combustion engine components reached 692 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.68% (including 215 million US dollars of imported parts for other spark ignition piston internal combustion engines, a year-on-year increase of -2.79%; 119 million US dollars of imported parts for marine diesel engines, a year-on-year increase of -6.18%);

The import of generator sets was 106 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -8.69% (including the import of compression ignition internal combustion engine generator sets with P>2MVA of 40 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -40.28%).

2、 In terms of export value, except for the year-on-year decrease in diesel engines, all other sub categories increased year-on-year. Specifically:

Diesel engine exports amounted to 210 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -12.31% (of which P ≥ 132.39kw (180hp) automotive diesel engine exports amounted to 80 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of -5.15%);

The export of gasoline engines was 338 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.03% (of which the export of reciprocating piston engines for vehicles with a displacement of 3000 ≥ 1000ml was 238 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 6.28%);

The export of other types of complete machines was 470 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 23.06% (including the export of other unlisted spark ignition piston internal combustion engines was 197 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 26.84%);

The export of internal combustion engine components was 2.325 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.88% (including 927 million US dollars of parts for other spark ignition piston internal combustion engines, a year-on-year increase of 5.10%; 282 million US dollars of parts for P ≥ 132.39kw (180hp) diesel engines, a year-on-year increase of 17.28%);

The export of generator sets reached 999 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 32.82% (of which the export of generator sets equipped with spark ignition piston internal combustion engines was 326 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 28.86%).
