The launch and implementation plan demonstration meeting for the National Key R&D Program "Key Technologies for Hybrid Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines for Heavy Commercial Vehicles" was successfully held

On May 23, 2025, the National Key R&D Program "New Energy Vehicles" Key Special Project "Key Technologies for Hybrid Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines for Heavy Commercial Vehicles" was launched and the implementation plan demonstration meeting was held at Weichai.

The project is led by Weichai Power and jointly undertaken by Beijing Institute of Technology, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shandong University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Kunming Guiyan Catalyst Co., Ltd., and China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Jinan Power Co., Ltd. The project mainly focuses on tackling the core technological bottlenecks in the field of hydrogen internal combustion engines, breaking through efficient and stable combustion technologies, developing core components and systems such as fuel supply systems, boost systems, and post-treatment systems, mastering key technologies for whole machine integration, developing efficient and clean heavy-duty commercial vehicle hybrid dedicated hydrogen internal combustion engines, and completing the integration of hydrogen electric hybrid vehicles.

The expert group for argumentation is composed of Li Kaiguo, Chairman and Researcher of the China Society of Automotive Engineers, Wu Zhixin, Chairman of the Electric Vehicle Technical Committee of the National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee, Professor Zhang Xin from Beijing Jiaotong University, Professor Lou Diming from Tongji University, Professor Deng Kangyao from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Wei Haiqiao, Vice President of Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Wang Zhong from Jiangsu University. Researcher Li Kaiguo serves as the leader of the expert group. More than 40 key members of the project team from the project unit attended the meeting.

The project leader Li Zhijie reported in detail on the overall implementation plan of the project from the aspects of project overview and assessment indicators, task decomposition and research content, project nodes and implementation plan, management mechanism and project budget, achievement form and testing plan, etc. At the same time, the leaders of five sub projects reported their respective implementation plans. The expert group questioned and discussed the implementation plan, and believed that the overall technical route of the project implementation is scientifically feasible, clear and specific, the research work and project decomposition are reasonable, the main assessment indicators and methods are specific and reasonable. They agreed to demonstrate through the project implementation plan, and put forward constructive suggestions in strengthening collaboration between projects and improving risk awareness.

The successful convening of this implementation plan demonstration meeting has further deepened the project team's understanding of the overall goals, technical roadmap, achievement delivery, and project collaboration, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality implementation of the project in the future.
