Industry News | Officially put into operation! China's first hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle

According to First Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells, on July 30th, Yuchai Group announced that a sprinkler truck equipped with Yuchai YCK05H hydrogen combustion engine has been officially put into operation in Cangzhou, Hebei Province. This is the first hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle in China to be put into practical operation, marking the transition of China's hydrogen internal combustion engine industry from technology research and development to product application.

Specifically, Yuchai Group has developed the YCK05H hydrogen engine specifically for urban sanitation scenarios. Through the transient boost enhancement technology and high-precision air flow management system of the hydrogen specific PTO function, it adopts multiple technologies such as high-pressure multi-point injection, efficient low inertia turbocharging, and efficient lean combustion to overcome technical problems such as backfire and detonation in hydrogen engines, achieving "zero carbon emissions". Compared with fuel cells, the YCK05H hydrogen engine claims to have a 70% lower manufacturing cost, a 50% reduction in usage cost, and a 400% increase in lifespan. It is mainly used in commercial scenarios such as urban buses, coaches, and special-purpose vehicles.

Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Group Co., Ltd. was established in 1951 and is a large state-owned enterprise group with power systems as its core business. It has industrial bases in Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and other places, implementing a strategy of concentric and diversified development. On the track of hydrogen energy application, Yuchai Group has built a full spectrum of hydrogen energy solutions covering automotive hydrogen internal combustion engines, hydrogen range extenders, hydrogen internal combustion engine generator sets, and hydrogen fuel cells, which are suitable for various automotive scenarios and power generation fields such as public transportation, postal services, environmental sanitation, and cold chain logistics.

Driven by the "dual carbon" goal, new energy is reshaping the energy market landscape with a vigorous momentum. Among them, the construction of the hydrogen energy industry is in full swing, with green energy landmarks emerging one after another, and the construction of multiple world-class projects attracting widespread attention.

According to the "China Hydrogen Energy Development Report 2025" compiled by the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration, by the end of 2024, renewable energy electrolytic water hydrogen production capacity of over 120000 tons per year will be built in various regions, over 540 hydrogen refueling stations will be built, and about 24000 fuel cell vehicles will be promoted. Pilot demonstrations in various fields have made positive progress.

Yuchai Machinery's chief engineer Lin Tiejian once said, "Yuchai needs to be a product supermarket, led by demand, covering various segmented markets and fuel types, ensuring that users can find the most suitable power solutions for their own segmented market needs and actual operational scenarios in Yuchai's product line
