Industry News | "Commercial Vehicle Dark Horse" Hydrogen Heavy Truck Tested, Breaks Twice in Half a Year

On August 6th, following the successful mass production of 200kW hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks in March 2025, Rongcheng New Energy Group led the research and development of 400kW stack hydrogen heavy-duty trucks, which successfully completed vehicle integration and entered the testing stage, raising the single stack power of hydrogen heavy-duty trucks to a new height in the industry.

Specifically, the hydrogen energy heavy-duty truck was jointly developed by Hydrogen Yang Power Company, a subsidiary of Rongcheng New Energy, in collaboration with Dongfeng Liuqi, Qingneng Co., Ltd., Tianhai Hydrogen Energy, Mengguli, and others. It has made innovations in terms of stack power and system efficiency, Type IV hydrogen storage system, electric drive axle, and overall vehicle quality. The hydrogen fuel cell system is jointly developed by Hydrogen Yang Power Company and Qingneng Co., Ltd. It is equipped with a 400kW graphite metal composite bipolar plate liquid cooled fuel cell stack and hydrogen circulation module, with a rated power of 200kW and a system efficiency of up to 49% -60%. Combined with a dual motor rear axle direct drive and intelligent vehicle networking management system with a transmission efficiency exceeding 93%, it builds a "high-power, low-energy consumption" power core.

At the same time, the hydrogen powered heavy-duty truck achieves energy consumption reduction of over 15% through integrated cooling and waste heat recovery technology, and breaks through the bottleneck of -35 ℃ low-temperature rapid start-up technology. The first domestically certified 35MPA-450L IV hydrogen supply system produced by Tianhai Hydrogen Energy is adopted, which reduces the weight by 500kg compared to traditional systems. Combined with a 750MPa high-strength steel frame, the overall weight of the vehicle is controlled within 10 tons.

In addition, the hydrogen consumption of this hydrogen powered heavy-duty truck is expected to be as low as 7 kilograms per 100 kilometers, demonstrating significant economic advantages in long-distance trunk logistics transportation scenarios. Its fuel cell system is not only suitable for 49 ton heavy-duty trucks, but can also be extended to various scenarios such as large mining trucks and rail transit.

Under the guidance of the "dual carbon" goal, Rongcheng New Energy is using the synergy of the entire industry chain as an engine to write a new paradigm for the development of the hydrogen energy industry. As of July this year, Rongcheng New Energy has put 800 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles into operation and plans to build a maintenance center for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. It is committed to independently developing and producing key components and consumables such as air filters, deionizers, and deionized water. This measure not only helps to reduce costs, but also provides comprehensive service guarantees for the entire lifecycle of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

With the mass production of core components, costs are expected to rapidly decrease. After forming a cluster advantage around the upstream and downstream industrial chain of hydrogen powered vehicles, the synergy of the industrial chain will bring about high efficiency and convenience in production, and heavy-duty trucks are more likely to be "hydrogen loaded on the road".
